Artillery Private, San Antonio, c. 1910.

This photograph is not sharp enough to show the regimental number above the crossed cannon on the cap badge, but in the years before World War One, Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, was the home of the Third Field Artillery Regiment. Other artillery regiments were in Texas during this time, but on detached duty from their permanent stations. Only the Third had its permanent station in Texas. Since it was unlikely for units on detached duty to bring their full dress uniforms, I believe this man to be a member of the Third Regiment.
