Officer, Combination Calendar and Thermometer, 1914.

A photograph of an infantry officer surmounts a wooden frame holding a thermometer and small calendar. The officer has no rank device on his shoulder cords, indicating a 2nd lieutenant, and there is no other visible insignia to determine his unit. On his chest are three marksmenship medals, probably earned as an enlisted man before receiving his officer's commission. The thermometer has check points for "Freezing," "Temperate," "Summer Heat," and "Blood Heat."
